Scrapbook Source Makes the Headlines

Scrapbook Source was chosen by the Chicago Tribune Paper to participate in their version of "Iron Chef"-style Scrapbook Challenge back in March. And we accepted the challenge!
The Chicago Tribune pitted two pro scrapbookers, one representing Chicago and the other representing the suburbs to compete head to head. So, we asked our very own Connie Tameling, mom, lawyer, scrapbook instructor and newly announced Honorable Mention of Creating Keepsakes 2007 Hall of Fame.
.
The Scrapbook Challenge went like this; without knowing what photos Connie would be given to use, she gathered an array of product from our store to bring to the competition with her. She brought her own cutting tools, papers, adhesives embellishment and ribbons to boot. It was like attending a Friday Night Crop. If it's not attached bring it. Connie and I arrived early at the Tribune Towers downtown Wednesday morning. Once everyone was there; our competitor, the cameraman, the video man, the report, the judge and audience, Connie was then given the mystery photos and the them for the scrapbook page. Connie then had one hour to complete her scrapbook page layout. Then, time was up! The pages were complete and the judge chose Connie's page as the winner!!!
.
You can read and see Connie's winning scrapbook page in the Chicago Tribune Paper today, April 4, 2006, in the At Play section 5A. Also you can view the video clip at www.chicagotribune.com/scrapbook . This was a great opportunity for Connie to represent the hobby of scrapbooking and to show off her talent to everyone. Good Job!

We all probably have a zillion birthday party photos stashed away from years gone by. Do you ever get bored with the same old birthday pages? Well I sure do. This class will show you how to add a little ZING to your typical birthday pages. We will be talking about using brads as a decorative element on your page, as opposed to using them solely to attach things to your layouts or cards. This is a great way to make use of the stash of brads you have been collecting. Also, we will discuss incorporating movement in your design. For my layout I am showing movement of the candle blowing with ribbons and other embellishments. However, don’t shy away from this class just because you don’t have a similar photograph. I’ll show you how you can add movement to your page with the ribbon forming balloon strings, party streamers, etc. So bring your birthday celebration photos (kid or adult - everyone loves a party after all!) and let’s get scrapping. Oh, and one more thing . . . if you want to have your page completed when you walk out the door, you will want to prepare your journaling in advance. The journaling space is approximately 6 inches wide by 2 inches tall, printed on white cardstock.
See you soon!! -- Connie Below is a list of supplies that might be helpful to bring along to the class. However, please still come even if you don’t have all of these supplies, as I will bring my own stash to share if needed. Photos: 1 large focal photo (mine is an 8x10 Black and White cropped to approximately 6x8); 5 smaller photos (mine are all color photos; (3) 3.5x5 and (2) 2x3)Journaling: the space is approximately 6 inches wide by 2 inches tall, printed on white cardstockscissorspaper trimmercorner rounderfabric pinking shears (time to show your faces all you quilters J ) glue dots3D dimensional POP dots your regular adhesiveblack Sakura glaze penred markerpencil and eraserruler (preferably clear) Anywhere hole punch (the one you use with a hammer) we will use this one quite a bit for placing the brads!!
